Safe Installation Instructions
Follow this precise sequence to install the new coil and set the critical air gap:
1
Preparation & Safety
Phase 1
Disconnect the old spark plug boot and ensure the stop switch is set to "OFF". Remove the upper plastic engine shroud to completely expose the flywheel and coil area.
2
Old Coil Removal
Phase 2
Disconnect the small ground/kill switch wire. Unscrew the mounting bolts holding the old coil in place, then remove the entire old assembly. Clean the area from dirt, grease, or carbon buildup.
3
Setting the Air Gap
Phase 3
Place the new Maruyama coil (277798) onto its mounts without tightening the bolts yet. Rotate the flywheel until the built-in magnets align directly with the poles of the coil. Insert a feeler gauge (or a thick business card, approx. 0.3-0.4 mm) between the flywheel magnets and the coil.
4
Tightening & Wiring
Phase 4
Let the magnets pull the coil tight against the thickness gauge, then securely torque down the mounting bolts. Slide the gauge out, reconnect the kill switch wire, snap the new boot onto the spark plug, and reassemble the engine shroud.
